1-2 jalapeño peppers, seeded and finely chopped (adjust to taste)
1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves, chopped
Juice of 1 lime
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
Prepare the Tomatoes: Wash the tomatoes thoroughly under running water. Core the tomatoes and remove any tough parts near the stem. Dice the tomatoes into small cubes and place them in a large mixing bowl.
Chop the Veggies: Finely chop the red onion, jalapeño peppers, and garlic cloves. If you prefer a milder salsa, you can remove the seeds and membranes from the jalapeños before chopping. Add these chopped ingredients to the bowl with the diced tomatoes.
Add Cilantro and Lime Juice: Wash the cilantro leaves and chop them finely. Add them to the bowl with the other veggies. Squeeze the juice of one lime over the mixture.
Season: Season the salsa with salt and pepper according to your taste preferences. Start with a small amount and adjust as needed.
Mix Well: Gently toss all the ingredients together until well combined. Be careful not to mash the tomatoes too much; you want them to retain some texture.
Chill (Optional): If time allows, cover the salsa and let it chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. This step is optional but can enhance the taste of the salsa.
Serve: Once chilled (if desired), give the salsa a final stir and taste for seasoning. Adjust salt, pepper, or lime juice if needed. Serve the homemade tomato salsa with tortilla chips, on tacos, nachos, grilled meats, or any other dish of your choice.
